Who is MECHEM? MECHEM (Pty) Ltd was established in the late 1960's, as a research and development facility of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa, to provide the then South African Defence Force (SADF) with mechanical and chemical technology solutions for defence related problems (providing a clear indication of the origins of the name "MECHEM").
In 1988 the unit was transferred to the South African Armaments Corporation (ARMSCOR). In 1992, when the RSA Government decided to commercialise its defence industry, MECHEM was grouped as part of the newly formed DENEL (Pty) Ltd. During the unbundling process of DENEL (Pty) Ltd in early 2007, MECHEM was registered as MECHEM (Pty) Ltd on 1 April 2007. In 2012, Mechem as a business unit was incorporated into Denel Land Systems, also a division of Denel SOC Ltd. Today, Denel operates according to sound business principles. The MECHEM Brand
In a fiercely contested market, the essence of the MECHEM brand differentiates the company from its competitors through commitment to quality, performance and delivery. Over the years, MECHEM has established itself internationally as a preferred provider of Mine Action Services.
The MECHEM symbol originated from: - The chemical symbol for nitrate, and - The mine protected hull of the CASSPIR, a mine protected vehicle. |
